emoji science

For a 125 year old brand to reach a new generation, one who’s second language was quickly becoming emoji, GE set out to prove that there is science in everything, even emoji.

We created the emoji table of experiments to classify the emoji as elements, which included re-illustrating every emoji to be ownable to GE.

We emoji-fied our science lab and invited everyone to send us an emoji on Snapchat and we would send back a science experiment to match.
Some snaps even starring THE science guy, Bill Nye.

We collaborated with Mashable to create a video series with Bill Nye simplifying science topics like energy efficiency, mapping the mind, materials science, and light technology, all using emoji.

What started as a single day activation filled with emoji and science became a multi-year program with recurring emoji content across GE’s social channels.
From lesson plans for teachers to use in science class to interactive sites like the climate change example below, we continued to find ways to simplify science with emoji.

We created one of the first branded filters on Snapchat to celebrate the summer solstice. The #SolsticeSelfie filter was used by over 4.8 million people, garnering nearly 65MM views.

Since its 2014 launch, Emoji Science has been GE's top-performing social campaign with 1.9 billion earned media impressions.
